British L39A1 7.62mm Target Rifle (R29979)
The L39A1 is an adaptation of the standard 303 British caliber Enfield No. 4, Mk 2 rifle to a 7.62mm NATO target rifle. A new heavy barrel, bolt face, floating forend, and target sights were added. This excellent rifle was modified by Sterling to L39A1 configuration. The rear receiver ring is marked N 1944 over BM over 12623 over FTR. The front receiver ring is marked REGULATED over BY POLICE with a crown over BNP over 291 below and with an S and SP to the right. Below this, is the double facing broad arrow that indicates withdrawal from service. The matching bolt is marked on the rear of the hanndle BM12623 and crown over SP over BNP over 20T on the top. The left side of the magazine is marked with a boxed STERLING with 7.62 MM. CONV'N. over PROV. PAT. over 41740/59. The center sling swivel is marked PARKER HALE MADE IN ENGLAND orond the circumference and 215J over 4 at the center. The bottom of the buttstock to the rear of the trigger guard is marked J.C over N22 over a broad arrow. The 27.5" heavy barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. It is equipped with an interchangeable disc front sight and a Parker Hale PH-5C rear peep sight. The gun has approx. 99% of its dark parkerized type finsih. The stock is excellent with no chips or cracks. The brass service buttplate is fine. The sling swivels are present. The action functions correctly. This is a great example of the Sterling L39A1 type target rifle. It is fit for the finest target rifle or British collection.
