This .30-06 caliber Special Target 1903A1 Springfiled rifle is serial number 1328462. Its star gauged barrel dated 9-29. The Special Target rifle was described from 1931 to 1935 as a reconditioned National Match rifle with the type C pistol grip stock and with the specially designed National Match parts replaced with standard parts. This rifle matches that description. The bore is excellent with bright, strong rifling. The metal has approx. 98% parkerized finish. The bolt is polished bright and is marked B2 on the handle. It is not numbered. The face of the rear sight ladder is polished. It has the 2,850 yard notch at the top. The rear sight is protected by a P. J. O'Hare sight cover. The pistol grip C stock and handguard are excellent. The stock has the D1836 part number stamp on the bottom of the butt. The handguard is stamped D28179. There are no firing proof or inspection stamps. The buttplate has fine checkering with a trap. The action functions correctly. The rifle is equipped with a very good M1905 sling. This is a very nice example of a scarce Springfield Model 1903A1 Special Target configuration rifle.
