Custer Range Colt Single Action Army Ainsworth Inspected (AC317)
Serial Number 6078. 45 LC Caliber with a 7 ½” barrel. This is a cavalry model inspected by O. W. Ainsworth. This gun This gun has had the metal cleaned and the metal has a light brown patina. The grips are very good as period replacements. The “US” and the patent dates on the left hand side of the frame have been removed. This is very commonly found on both the Indian captured guns and deserter guns. This gun was part of lot 6 issued to the US Cavalry and lot 5 and 6 were the guns shipped to the 7th cavalry. Several gun in the same serial range have provenance to the 7th cavalry and the battle of the little big horn. This gun comes with a letter from noted Colt expert John Kopec. Mr. Kopec notes in his letter the minor alterations made to this gun. This is a very fine 7th Cavalry Colt Single Action Army Cavalry Model!
